Hôtel des Invalides

The glistening, golden dome that is visible from many spots in the city belongs to Les Invalides. Now most famous for housing Napoleon’s tomb, the beautiful complex of buildings was originally built by Louis XIV in 1670 as a hospital for injured & retired soldiers. It still serves this purpose today, but the surrounding buildings and cathedrals have since become museums and monuments centered around military history.
