Notre-Dame de Paris

One of the most iconic spots in Paris, largely thanks to Victor Hugo’s novel of the same name, Notre Dame de Paris is a must-see monument. Completed in 1333 after 170 years of construction, this cathedral is a medieval masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Free to enter, the inside is dark but offers stunning rose windows and stained glass work. You can also buy a ticket for 10€ to climb the 422 steps to the top of the church towers where you’ll enjoy a unique view over Paris. Security is tight – no luggage and women must cover their shoulders – and the line can be long, but it tends to move fairly quickly.
